How to Turn On a Cake Disposable , Just Inhale
Most Cake disposables have no on/off button. To turn on a Cake disposable, you just inhale , the pen has a draw-activated sensor that fires the battery automatically. If your Cake device does have a button, you press it while drawing. This guide covers activation for both types, storage tips to avoid accidental firing, and what to do when the pen won’t turn on at all.
Draw-Activated Cake Disposables (Most Models)
The current Cake She Hits Different lineup is almost entirely draw-activated. That means there’s nothing to press , you just put the mouthpiece to your lips and inhale. Inside the device, a small pressure sensor detects the airflow and sends power to the coil.
How to turn on a Cake disposable with draw activation
- Take the pen out of the packaging
- Charge for about 15 minutes if it’s your first use (CAKE’s recommendation)
- Put the mouthpiece to your lips
- Inhale steadily for 2–4 seconds
- The indicator light on the base should glow while you draw
If nothing happens on the first try, the battery may need charging or the draw sensor may be blocked by lint or oil. A gentle wipe of the mouthpiece opening usually clears it.
Button-Activated Cake Disposables
Some larger Cake devices (especially the 3g and 6g versions) have a button on the side. To turn on a Cake disposable with a button:
- Press the button 5 times rapidly to unlock the device (common safety feature)
- Press and hold the button while inhaling
- Release the button when you finish the draw
Some models let you pre-heat the coil by pressing the button twice quickly without inhaling. Pre-heating gives a smoother first hit, especially when the oil is cold.
How to Turn Off a Cake Disposable
Draw-activated Cake disposables don’t have a true off state , they simply don’t fire unless you inhale. Storage becomes the key to avoiding accidental activation.
Button-activated Cake pens
Press the button 5 times rapidly to lock the device. The indicator usually flashes to confirm lock. This prevents accidental firing during travel or in a pocket.
Storage Tips to Prevent Misfires
Draw-activated pens can occasionally fire in a pocket or bag if pressure changes trigger the sensor. Simple storage practices prevent this:
- Store mouthpiece up , prevents oil from settling into the airway and clogging the sensor
- Cap the mouthpiece if a cap came with the device
- Avoid tight pockets where the mouthpiece gets pressed by fabric
- Don’t leave in hot cars , heat can trigger pressure changes and thin the oil
- Keep upright when possible to reduce leaks toward the mouthpiece
When Your Cake Disposable Won’t Turn On
Check the battery first
If the light doesn’t come on when you draw, the battery is probably dead. Plug into a USB-C charger for 15–20 minutes and try again. Rechargeable Cake disposables are the norm now, so charging usually solves the “won’t turn on” problem.
Check the airflow path
A blocked sensor can prevent the draw activation from firing. Wipe the mouthpiece opening gently with a dry cotton swab. Check for oil residue that might have hardened over the sensor hole.
Check the contacts
Oil or lint on the internal contacts prevents the battery from powering the coil. Wipe the port area with a dry swab.
Check for signs the device is done
If the pen has been used heavily, the battery may be at end of life. If it charges but still won’t fire, and the oil chamber looks empty, the device has run its course.
